Poems
I dabble in poetry and thought to share a few here.
Richmond
Sweet breezes pass from river to road,
Over moments across an age,
Ancient palaces still echo here,
As time doth turn the page.
Laughter and screams, and joy in the air,
With gestures that are soft, and kind,
Each one of us living, breathing, delighting,
In whatever our hearts may find.
Sash windows observe, as life passes by,
And the trees know all too well,
Their endless stories, they cannot cry,
But through their leaves, they may tell.
Of Earls and Countesses, of lords and horses,
Of carriages and boats, with Old Thames in flow,
Around this small green gem, in a corner of London,
That over time, has prospered and grown.
New Parks and grand lodges,
Great stags, felled by arrows, amidst old oaks,
Stars and Garters, and blazing fires,
Those that settled here, were no simple folk.
Unknowing we are drawn,
To bathe in these peaceful airs,
These irresistible enticements,
That make this town so fair.
If Royalty were content, by the river,
To dwell, to live, and reign,
Then I too, in my dear Richmond,
Am happy to do the same.

The Green
Sweeping thoughts, fly past my eyes,
This searing air, is filled with cries,
Of joyous souls, of wanton hunger,
Picnics, conversation, and Pimms they plunder.
Of flying balls, and mis-timed kicks,
Of lost children appearing, with mothers quite sick,
Green as the trees, silent souls without which,
The birds could not perch, and sing, and twitch.
Or fly around us, or step, or peck,
On tasty morsels, left on the deck.
The leaves would not rustle, or sigh, or shine,
The world without them, would simply not align.
Our British afternoon, our summer institution,
Of life, of culture, of fun, and revolution,
That these sweet Sundays bring,
Which are cherished and remembered,
We count the hours, we feel them, burning bright with warm embers.
As the sun doth shine, on this unacted ball,
Of everything quite ‘London’, as the sun doth fall,
Into the horizon, of purples, reds and pinks,
As I sit here smiling, it does make me think.
Of these moments I’ve lived, and observed through my life,
That I would wistfully remember, with a melancholy sigh,
These are treasures, immeasurable, seldom valued until gone,
Every moment, every second, they are never as long.
As the silent echo, when they cease to be,
Do not ponder! Live them! You owe it to me.

Us
Our great sacrifice, our great step,
And into the void we crept,
With Faith’s hand holding,
And trust in the Divine unfolding,
Everything we had, was gone, and was left.
This great step, was seen, was felt,
The Universe heard us, and shuddered, and dealt,
A brand-new hand, of Kings and Queens,
The blessing of new lives, of promises and dreams.
For brave we were, stood alone in the dark,
Our decisions above us, like a knife, cold and stark,
We boldly moved forward, come what may,
Fear did not deter us, where from destiny lay.
And journeys began, from the ends of the Earth,
From islands and jungles, to a sacred rebirth,
Like two coloured threads, once woven together,
Parted by lives past, but connected forever.
Brought together by love, not for one another,
But for a passion shared, with no equal, and no other,
For relentless beats, and rhyme, and melody,
Unbeknown to us, this was the hook, this was the key.
By which we would meet, one special afternoon,
After much drink, much wine, and a pill or two.
Who was to guess the Universe’s thinking?
Divine wisdom’s fortune, whilst we were drinking?
And talking, and laughing, and gayly ignoring,
The Great Author’s idea, for the first chapter in our story.
We hazard to think something of Divine intervention,
Or Universal approval, that allowed us to mention,
Bitter drinks in the jungle, the release of emotions,
A magical drink, a wondrous potion,
Which opened the door, to capture my gaze,
And everything around me, disappeared in a haze.
And suddenly this woman, with crystal green eyes,
Looked upon me with a light, whose source was Divine,
And my soul lay exposed, my heart lay prone,
To a feeling that from then on, I wouldn’t be alone.
And deep into my heart you looked, and peered, and saw,
What deep down your soul had been truly looking for,
And I came to meet it, with a burning, soothing fire,
Of my love, which was your soul’s true desire.
And so it was that this thing began, unexpected, unwanted,
To where we go now I don’t know.
